Abstract The most widely used model for granular gases is perhaps the inelastic hard-sphere (IHSM), where grains are assumed to be perfectly smooth spheres colliding with a constant coefficient of normal restitution. A much more tractable Maxwell (IMM), in which velocity-dependent collision rate replaced by an effective mean-field constant. This simplification has been taken advantage many researchers find number exact results within IMM. On other hand, both IHSM and IMM neglect impact roughness—generally present real grains—on dynamic properties gas. remedied rough (IRHSM), where, apart from restitution, tangential restitution introduced. In parallel carried out when going IMM, we propose this paper (IRMM) as IRHSM. tractability proposed illustrated evaluation collisional moments first second degree, relevant ones third fourth degree. applied rotational-to-translational temperature ratio velocity cumulants homogeneous cooling state.
